Darrel Brown, a former Eureka High athlete and outstanding performer on Lumberjack teams of the 1940s, was chosen as the eighth member of the Hall of Fame. Brown lettered in basketball, baseball and track and was student body president his senior year. After leaving Humboldt State, he played professional basketball with the Baltimore Bullets and returned to the University of California for a master’s degree.

Darrel was the third highest collegiate scorer in the United States in 1947 and was an All-American. In track, he held the high jump record for several years and placed high among the pole vaulters in the conference. He captained the basketball team in 1948, although injury prevented full participation.
