Dolores Henders was one of several Humboldt County athletes in 1928 to travel to Newark, New Jersey to compete in the trials for the Olympics. Henders is representative of the emphasis on women’s athletics during the 1920s under the leadership of Laura Herron. Henders was a member of the 440-relay team that won the Northern California Athletic Club championship. Henders, who was teammates with Elta Cartwright, continued her athletic career at Humboldt State into the 1930s, competing in field hockey.
