Tuttle, track star at HSU beginning in 1965, has gone on to win in various marathons and cross country races and has his sights on eventual Olympic competition. He set Far Western Conference records in the 3-mile and the steeplechase in his senior year at HSU and won the NAtional Collegiate steeplechase tittle. Tuttle was the first cross country All-American at Humboldt, placing fifth in 1966. Since then 18 other All-American honors have been garnered by the cross country program. In 1975 Tuttle won the Bay to Breakers race. He was the American marathon champion from 1976-77 and finished seventh in the Boston Marathon in 1977.
