James “Turk” Thompson played quarterback on the Joseph Forbes’ teams of 1946 and 1947. He also participated in track, capturing the conference championship in the pole vault twice, and was a member of the Northern California championship boxing teams of the post-war years when the College fielded exceptional college teams in that sport.

Jimmy played for Dr. Forbes at Compton Junior College before joining his teams at Humboldt State. Thompson went on to become the head track and cross country coach at Locke High School in Los Angeles, and has had championships and many all-city selectees on his teams.
