LA JOLLA — (Oct. 1) While Humboldt State's offense managed just seven shots and only one on goal, the Lumberjack defensive line once again came up big, holding for a 0-0 double overtime tie against UC San Diego in California Collegiate Athletic Association men's soccer action Sunday.
HSU is now 8-3-2 overall and 4-3-2 in conference play. The Tritons move to 6-4-2 overall and 4-3-2 in the CCAA.
The Lumberjacks' lone shot on goal came in the 109th minute of the game by
Mark Nelson, but UCSD goalkeeper Luis Salazar came up with a save to preserve the scoreless draw.
Drew Ryan had five saves in goal for the Lumberjacks who turned in their sixth shutout of the season.
“The guys turned in another good performance and a strong game,” said HSU head coach Andy Cumbo. “our defense did a good job and our offense created opportunities, we just didn't capitalize. UCSD is a good team and I'm happy about this result.”
Humboldt hits the road to face travel partner Sonoma State on Wednesday before returning home to host San Francisco State and CSU Monterey Bay on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
