LOS ANGELES — (Oct. 13) Despite a better showing than in recent matches, Humboldt State's volleyball team fell 16-30, 30-23, 20-30, 16-30 to No. 18 nationally ranked Cal State Los Angeles Friday.
The Lumberjacks drop to 6-11 overall and 3-10 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play while the Golden Eagle improve to 13-5 overall and 9-4 in conference matches.
“We did a lot of good things tonight,” said HSU head coach Sue Woodstra. “We battled, we made smart plays and we stayed with it. We made (Cal State L.A.) adjust.”
The Golden Eagles won 3-0 in the teams' last meeting, but this time around the Lumberjacks put up a stronger fight, claiming a win in the second game.
Humboldt hit just 0.96 for the match, compared to Cal State L.A.'s .281 attack percentage, but the teams' did block evenly, each collecting five team blocks.
Kristen Kinzer had three block assists for the Jacks, while on offense,
Katie Norkunas had a team-high eight kills and
Lynsey Adams added six.
“It has been three or four people who get going and three or four people that are not,” said Woodstra. “Tonight the whole team played well.”
The Lumberjacks travel to Bakersfield for a 7 p.m. match against Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday.
