ARCATA — (Oct. 7) Maya Domoto had a season-high 42 digs and Kristen Kinzer had a career-high 12 blocks, but the Humboldt State struggled to make runs when it needed them most, falling 26-30, 30-24, 35-33, 25-30, 15-17 to CSU Monterey Bay Saturday in California Collegiate Athletic Association volleyball action.

The Lumberjacks fall to 6-10 overall and 3-9 in CCAA play while the Otters improve to 9-12 overall and 3-9 conference matches.

Humboldt took an early 8-5 lead in the first game, but Monterey Bay rallied to take the lead at 12-11, and held the rest of the way for a 30-26 win.

Behind three block assists apiece from Kinzer and Olivia Solomon, and five service aces, the Lumberjacks gained some momentum in the second game, taking a 24-15 lead and holding on for a 30-24 win.

The Jacks' momentum carried partway through the third game as they jumped out to an 18-10 advantage, but the pendulum began to swing back towards the visitor as the Otters came back and pushed the game to a 35-33 final.

With their momentum gone, the Jacks struggled to find the energy to close out Monterey Bay, falling 30-25 in the fourth game.

In the fifth game, the Jacks held the lead at 13-12, but were unable to string together a pair of points, falling 17-15.

Katie Norkunas finished with a match-high 23 kills while Solomon and Mallory Briney added 19 and 12 kills, respectively.

Christine Ricketts paced the otters with 18 kills while Brittney Etchings collected 36 digs.

The Lumberjacks go back on the road next week, traveling to face Cal State L.A on Friday and Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday.
