ARCATA — (Nov. 1) Behind a double-double performance of 12 kills and 10 blocks by Brianna Koche, No. 11 nationally ranked UC San Diego claimed a 30-24, 30-23, 31-33, 30-26 win over Humboldt State in California Collegiate Athletic Association volleyball action Friday in Arcata.
Humboldt falls to 8-15 overall and 5-14 in conference play while the Tritons improve to 22-2 overall and 17-2 in the CCAA.
The Lumberjacks jumped out to early leads in all four games, a change from recent matches when they got behind early and were forced to play catch-up.
In the third game, despite a negative attack percentage, Humboldt managed a 33-31 win, scoring the final two points on kills by
Olivia Solomon and
Mallory Briney.
Solomon finished with a team-high eight kills while
Courtney Lee,
Kristen Kinzer and
Lynsey Adams had seven kills apiece.
UC San Diego was led by Rebecca Bailey's 19 kills while Amber Ries chipped in 14.
The Tritons won the battle at the net, collecting 12 team digs to the Lumberjacks' five.
Humboldt plays it's final match of the season Saturday, hosting Cal State Dominguez Hills in the East Gym at 7 p.m. Seniors Lee, Kinzer and
Maya Domoto will be honored in a short ceremony prior to the first serve.
