ARCATA — (Dec. 30) Avenging a 55-51 loss to Sonoma State just ten days ago, Humboldt State's women's basketball team jumped out to a 34-17 halftime lead and pushed its way to a 74-49 win over the Seawolves Saturday in the East Gym.
Senior guard
Katie Wilder was just one rebound and three assists shy of a triple-double, recording 20 points, nine boards, seven assists and five steals, helping the Lumberjacks move to 7-2 overall and 2-2 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play. Sonoma State dropped to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the CCAA.
HSU jumped out to a quick 6-0 advantage to open the game and quickly stretched the lead to 16-2 by the 15-minute mark.
Holding the Seawolves to just six first-half field goals, the Jacks led by as many as 19 points, shooting an impressive 54 percent from the field.
Sonoma State went on a little run to open the second half, cutting the deficit to 11 at the 17:32 mark, but the Jacks broke the game back open, going on an 18-4 run that was capped off by a three pointer by
Luiza Osborne to give HSU a 57-32 lead.
Mia Spasowksa supported Wilder's effort with 15points while
Haley Andrews and
Biava Arganda chipped in seven apiece.
Nichola Hester was the only SSU player to reach double figures, tallying 10 points, while leading scorer Danae Wellander was held to eight points on 3-of-3 shooting.
Humboldt easily won the battle on the boards, pulling down 36 rebounds to the Seawolves' 23.
The Lumberjacks return to the court Thursday and Saturday, hosting UC San Diego and Cal State Dominguez Hills in a pair of CCAA games. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m. both tights.
