ARCATA — (Aug. 30) Humboldt State's volleyball team opened conference play in style, claiming a 3-0 win over Sonoma State Wednesday in the East Gym.
 
The match was the Lumberjacks' first competing in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, and their fourth win of the season in five outings.    

Sonoma State fell to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in CCAA play.    

After being down 12-10 midway through the first game, the Jacks rallied behind Katie Norkunas' serve, scoring five straight points to take a 15-12 lead.    

Norkunas had five kills on 10 attempts in the game while Kristen Kinzer also added five kills as Humboldt held on for a 30-28 win.    

In the second game, the Jacks hit a stellar .533, tallying 19 kills while committing just three errors. HSU jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the game, and never looked back, on its way to a 30-18 win.    

In the third game Sonoma State hit a dismal -.128 percent and the Jacks' block came up big time and again as they scored a 30-24 victory and a three-game sweep of the Seawolves.    

Norkunas and Kinzer finished with 11 kills apiece while Olivia Solomon added nine.   

Defensively, Maya Domoto had a match-high 32 digs while Kinzer and Danielle Wells had six and five blocks, respectively.    

Humboldt travels travels to Seaside Friday for a 7 p.m. CCAA meeting with CSU Monterey Bay.
