TURLOCK — (Sept. 16) Despite a strong defensive performance, Humboldt State's volleyball team struggled offensively, falling 30-27, 30-27, 30-27 to Cal State Stanislaus Saturday in Turlock.

The loss is the third straight for the Lumberjacks, who are now 5-5 overall and 2-4 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play. The Warriors improve to 5-6 overall and 3-3 in the CCAA.

“We struggled quite a bit tonight,” said HSU head coach Sue Woodstra. “We played good defense, passed well and blocked well, we just couldn't get any attack going.”

For the second straight night no Lumberjack had double figure kills as they hit .24 as a team. Mallory Briney led the way with seven kills while Olivia Solomon added six. Maya Domoto led all players with 19 digs while Kristen Kinzer had a match-high six blocks.

In the first game, the Jacks tied the game up at 16-16, but two Humboldt errors and three Warrior kills put Stanislaus back up 20-16 and the home team led the rest of the way out.

Humboldt tied the second game at 25-25, but once again, attack errors gave the Warriors the lead back.

In the final game, Humboldt led 22-16, but tied at 27-27, the Jacks committed two attacking errors before the Warriors' Kayla Van Duyn put down a kill for the match point.

Humboldt will look to revive it's attack at home nest week when it plays host to Cal Poly Pomona and CSU San Bernardino Friday and Saturday in the East Gym.
