CARSON — (Sept. 29) Andres Ripa put away a shot in the 84th minute of play, lifting Humboldt State to a 1-0 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday in California Collegiate Athletic Association men's soccer action.

The Lumberjacks improve to 8-3-1 overall and 4-3-1 in CCAA play while the Toros fall to 7-5-0 overall and 3-5-0 in conference games.

“I was really pleased with how the guys played tonight,” said HSU head coach Andy Cumbo. “They were very motivated to do well and came out with a lot of energy. It was a very physical game and our guys held their composure.”
 
Humboldt had ten shots in the match, but missed a number of opportunities early in the game. The Jacks finally broke through at the 83:30 mark when Andres Ripa tallied his fourth goal of the season to give Humboldt the go-ahead.

Eric Webster carried the ball to the endline and slotted it back to Ripa who beat the Toros' keeper one-on-one before striking the ball into the net.

Cumbo credited his back line for turning in another strong performance on defense.

“Geoff (Houck) did an excellent job and Keith (Lambert) had the best game I've seen him play,” Cumbo said. “He was consistent on defense and on offense.”

Drew Ryan had four saves in goal for the Lumberjacks who turned in their fifth shutout of the season.

Humboldt continues south to La Jolla on Sunday to take on UC San Diego. Kick off for that match is scheduled for 11 a.m.
