CARSON — (Sept. 29) Despite being out-shot 31-8, Humboldt State's women's soccer team held strong, earning a 0-0 double overtime tie against Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday in Carson.
The Lumberjacks move to 6-4-2 overall and 3-3-2 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play while the Toros move to 5-6-1 on the season and 4-3-1 in conference play.
“At times we did good things and Dominguez Hills is a good team, but overall we didn't play very well,” said HSU head coach Andy Cumbo. “I am happy that we didn't give up any goals and found a way to earn a draw on the road.”
While the first half saw little offense form either team, Dominguez Hills went on the attack in the second half, taking 20 shots in the 45 minute period.
Staci Self was huge in goal for the Lumberjacks, collecting ten saves and holding the Toros at bay for 110 minutes.
“Our defense was pretty organized and all of the backs did a good job,” said Cumbo. “Staci had a good performance in goal and the whole team played hard and with a lot of energy for the entire game.”
Humboldt continues south to La Jolla on Sunday to take on UC San Diego. Kick off for that match is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
