ARCATA — (Sept. 30) Playing in front Humboldt State's Hall of Fame class of 2006, and a crowd of 4,367, the Lumberjack football squad put together a 30-13 win over the visiting Southern Oregon Raiders Saturday in the Redwood Bowl.
The win, Humboldt's fifth straight against the Raiders, moves the Lumberjacks to 3-1 on the season while Southern Oregon falls to 1-3.
After the Lumberjacks were forced to punt on the opening drive of the game, the Raiders marched 64 yards, capped off by a 21 yard rush by Patrick Preyer, in 2:41 to take a 6-0 lead.
Humboldt responded on the following possession when quarterback
Blake Moorman completed a three yard pass to Chris Odgen in the endzone, concluding a 78-yard drive.
Ben Peterson's PAT was good, giving the Jacks a 7-6 lead.
The Lumberjacks would score once more in the half, on a 30-yard field goal by Peterson, to take a 10-6 lead in to the break.
In the second half, Humboldt build on it's lead, with Moorman connecting with wide receiver Joey Stein for a pair of touchdowns, while
Joevany Cueva scored on a 20-yard run.
The Lumberjacks racked up 502 yards of offense, including 353 passing yards and 169 rushing yards.
Moorman turned in a an impressive 24-for-34 passing performance that included three touchdown passes and just one pick.
Stein led the Jacks' receiving with 11 catches for 179 yards and two touchdowns. Cueva had 78 yards in the ground while
Bobby Thomas rushed for 44 yards and Moorman netted 28 yards rushing.
Humboldt travels to Western Oregon next Saturday for a matinee 2 p.m. kick off in Monmouth, Ore.
