Mia Spasowska poured in a career-high 29 points while
Katie Wilder dished out a career-high 11 assists, leading the Lumberjack women's basketball team to a 81-68 California Collegiate Athletic Association win over San Francisco State Thursday.
The Lumberjacks improve to 9-3 overall and 4-3 in conference play while the Gators fall to 3-8 overall and 3-3 in the CCAA.
“That was a good win for us over a solid San Francisco State team,” said HSU head coach
Joddie Gleason. “They were above us in the conference standings so this was a nice one to even out their record.”
SFSU's Brio Rode sunk a three pointer to open the game, but Spasowska followed that with eight straight points of her own to give the Jacks an 8-3 lead.
The hot shooting continued throughout the first half for Humboldt, led by Spasowska's 14 points and
Biava Arganda's 12 points. A 57.7 first-half field goal percentage was aided by a 6-for-10 performance from beyond the arc, led by Taylor Kilgor's three three-pointers.
After leading by as many as 17 points, the Jacks staved off a Gator run to close out the half with a 42-35 advantage.
Throughout the game Humboldt struggled against San Francisco State's full court pressure, committing a season-high 29 turnovers, but the Jacks held their composure down the stretch to hold on the the 13-point victory.
Spasowska added nine rebounds to go along with her career-high point total while Arganda tied her career-high with 18 points. Wilder was one point shy of a double-double, tallying nine points and 11 assists.
The Lumberjacks gave up 17 offensive rebounds to the Gators, but won the battle of the boards 46-32, while also holding SFSU to a 36.8 percentage from the field.
Humboldt will close out its six game homestand on Saturday, hosting CSU Monterey Bay at 5:30 p.m. in the East Gym.
