ARCATA — (Jan. 13) With five Lumberjacks reaching double-figures, Humboldt State's women's basketball team earned it's third straight win, an 89-56 decision over CSU Monterey Bay Saturday in the East Gym.
Humboldt, now 10-3 overall and 5-3 in league, moved into fourth place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association while the Otters fell to 3-9 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
“We had great balance tonight with the five players in double figures,” said HSU head coach
Joddie Gleason. “We did a nice job distributing the ball.”
Biava Arganda scored eight of the Jacks first 15 points as HSU took a quick 15-6 lead by the 15:10 mark.
A pair of three-pointers by
Jennifer Enos, along with back-to-back layups by
Mia Spasowska stretched the advantage to 29-12.
Humboldt, which shot nearly 60 percent from the field in the first half, led by as many as 29, and took a 54-27 lead into the break.
While they shot just 34.5 percent from the field in the second half, the Jacks' kept up the defensive intensity, and six straight points by
Kristina O'Keefe gave HSU its largest lead of the game, an 80-39 advantage at the 9:20 mark.
Spasowska finished with a team-high 18 points while Arganda and
Katie Wilder chipped in 13 points apiece. Also reaching double figures were Enos and
Haley Andrews, with 11 points each, while Wilder dished out eight assists.
Freshman
Paige Peterson pulled down a career-high nine boards to go along with six points.
Sabrina Jenkins led CSU Monterey Bay with 10 points while Alma Lopez and Dana Andrews, sister of the Lumberjacks'
Haley Andrews, had nine points each.
Humboldt heads south next week, traveling to Cal State L.A. and Cal State Bakersfield on Friday and Saturday for a pair of CCAA contests.
