Womens basketball claims 70-57 win over CSUS

ARCATA — (Jan. 25) Led by Mia Spasowska's game-high 20 points, Humboldt State's women's basketball team picked up a 70-57 California Collegiate Athletic Association win over visiting Cal State Stanislaus Thursday in the East Gym.

The Lumberjacks, ranked No. 6 in the West Region, improve to 12-4 overall and 7-4 in the CCAA. The Warriors fall to 4-11 on the season and 1-9 in league play.

Poor shooting and turnovers led to a slow start for both teams, but Humboldt picked up the pace midway through the first half, opening up a nine point lead on a jumper by Haley Andrews at the 7:46 mark.

Andrews and Jennifer Enos both stepped up in the first half, scoring seven and six points, respectively, helping the Jacks to take a 32-23 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Warriors closed the gap to five points on a three pointer by Shristy Kumar at the 18:53 mark, but that was as close as the visitors would get for the remainder of the game.

A layup by Enos and four straight points stretched the lead to 49-35 at the 12:05 mark and when CSUS came within six with four minutes remaining, the Jacks responded once again with four straight points.

Joining Spasowska in double figures was Arganda with 13 points while Enos and Katie Wilder chipped in nine points apiece. Wilder also dished out seven assists and pulled down nine rebounds.

CS Stanislaus got 12 points from Gwendolyn Page and Kumar while Karaya Gage added 11.

Humboldt returns to the East Gym Saturday, hosting CCAA leader Chico State at 5:30 p.m.
