ARCATA — Outlasting Cal State Dominguez Hills through four tight games, Humboldt State earned a 30-25, 30-32, 30-27, 30-26 victory in aCalifornia Collegiate Athletic Association volleyball match played Saturday afternoon.

Led by Olivia Solomon and Mallory Briney with 14 each, five Jacks reached double figures in kills for the balanced attack. Solomon put away the final two points of the match to help the Jacks improve to 7-10 overall and 3-6 in the CCAA.

Sophia Lopes had 19 kills for the Toros, who fell to 2-17 overall and 1-7 in league play. She also paced her team defensively with 20 digs.

"Our defense was pretty good, but our offense could have been more consistent at times," HSUhead coach James Kealalio said. "We still need to improve our serve-receive."

HSU had five players in double figures for digs as well, led by Kelly Catherina's 24 and 19 by Liz Shannon.

"In the fourth game we got comfortable getting ahead early," Kealalio said. "We laid back when we were ahead when we needed to finish it off."

Humboldt State goes on the road next week, taking on Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock on Friday.
