Jacks drop physical battle to No. 6 CSUDH, 2-1

ARCATA – Three goals in the span of two minutes resulted in a 2-1 win for No. 6 nationally ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills over Humboldt State in California Collegiate Athletic Association  men's soccer action Sunday.

With the loss, the Jacks fell to 5-9-1 and 1-7-1 in the CCAA. The Toros improved to 10-3-0 and 6-2-0 in the CCAA.

“Collectively, this was one of our best games of the year,” said head coach Andy Cumbo.

Toros' forward Mario Guerrero opened the scoring in the 50th minute off of a defender's turnover, but the Jacks answered just 30 seconds later on Trel Mangarin's fifth goal of the year.

Guerrero stuck back 25 seconds later for the eventual game winner.

“Defensively I felt like we played well,” said Cumbo.

In goal, freshman Dave Bussen was in fine form despite allowing two goals. He finished the day with nine saves.

The Jacks will hit the road for their final roadtrip of the season. On Friday, the Jacks will face Chico State, with kickoff scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
