HSU seniors go out in style with 68-46 win over Eagles

ARCATA — (Feb. 24) Playing for the final time this season in the East Gym, Humboldt State's women's basketball team bade its trio of seniors farewell with a 68-46 win over Cal State Los Angeles Saturday.

The Lumberjacks improve to 16-9 overall and 11-9 in league play while the Golden Eagles fall to to 3-22 overall and 1-19 in the CCAA.

Seniors Katie Wilder, Mia Spasowska and Haley Andrews were all instrumental in the victory, a much-needed one for the Jacks who are currently ranked No. 8 in the West Region and are seeking a second-straight playoff berth.

Wilder Led all scorers with 22 points, and also added team-highs of eight rebounds and five assists. Spasowska had 18 points and four rebounds while Andrews came off the bench to chip in four points and a pair of boards.

The Golden Eagles hung with Humboldt throughout the first half, managing to stop each Lumberjack run with a bucket of their own.

A three-pointer by Jennifer Enos and a pair of free throws by Wilder stretch the Jacks' lead to 37-32, but a layup at the buzzer put CSLA within nine at the break.

Humboldt finally pulled away midway through the second half, using a 13-0 run to go up 57-35 by the 12:17 mark.

The Jacks shot 51 percent from the field and 60 percent from beyond the arc for the game. Jennifer Enos, who has struggled in recent games, was 4-for-4 from the three point line, finishing with 12 points.

Brenae Perkins led the Golden Eagles with 13 points and Fatimah Stokley chipped in 11. Cal State L.A. shot just 33 percent from the field and 27 percent from beyond the arc.

Humboldt closes out the regular-season on the road next week, traveling to take on Chico State on Thursday and Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday.
