Lumberjacks fall 68-59 to Cal State Dominguez Hills

CARSON — (Feb. 9) After making a run early in the second half, Humboldt State's women's basketball team was unable to hold on down the stretch, falling 68-59 to Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday in California Collegiate Athletic Association action.

The Lumberjacks fall to 14-6 overall and 9-6 in the CCAA. The Toros improve to 11-8 overall and 8-7 in league play.

Humboldt took a 9-5 lead early on, but went cold from the field as the first half went on and the Toros built a 30-20 advantage with 15 seconds remaining.

Katie Wilder gave the Jacks a lift in the finals seconds of the half, however, sinking a pair of free throws and a layup at the buzzer to pull HSU to within four at the break.

Back-to-back three-pointers by Jennifer Enos brought the Jacks to within three and a layup by Wilder at the  14:57 mark of the second half cut the deficit to 37-36.

Taylor Kilgore gave the Lumberjacks a five-point lead with a three-pointer with 10:32 remaining.

CS Dominguez Hills took the lead back at the 4:38 mark on a layup by Aujanee Baldwin and held on for the remainder of the game.

Wilder finished with 19 points for the Jacks, including an 11-for-12 performance from the free throw line. Mia Spasowska added 13 points and Enos had 12 points, all on three pointers.

Alana Bailey led the Toros with 19 points while Brigayle Iglehart chipped in 15.

Humboldt shot 41 percent from the field and 35 percent from beyond the arc while also turning the ball over 21 times. The Toros had 16 turnovers, shot 47 percent from the field and nailed free throws down the stretch to hold on for the nine-point win.

The Lumberjacks will have to bounce back quickly as they travel to take on league-leader UC San Diego Saturday in La Jolla.
