CHICO — (March 25) Carolyn Cameron had six hits in eight at-bats as Humboldt State pounded out 23 total hits in a 5-0 and 12-0 sweep of Chico State Sunday in California Collegiate Athletic Association softball action.

The Lumberjacks push their current win streak to 14 straight while improving to 28-3 overall and 15-1 in the CCAA. The Wildcats fall to 9-21 overall and 5-17 in league play.

In the opener, Cameron, Francesca West, Marissa Slattery and Chrissy Motnzy all had RBI hits, helping the Lumberjacks score one run in the forth, three in the fifth and one in the seventh.

Lizzy Prescott (15-1) recorded her sixth solo shutout, striking out six while giving up just one walk and a trio of hits to the Wildcats.

In the nightcap, Tracy Motzny (13-2) faced 19 batters in the five inning game, striking out just two, but allowing just two hits as the Lumberjack defense took care of the rest for the team's 13th shutout.

The Jacks jumped on Chico State early, scoring three runs in the first, two in the second, four in the third, two in the forth and one in the fifth.

Cameron led the way on offense, going 3-for-3 with four runs scored, while eight other players tallied hits.

“We were never really in trouble and it was nice to get two shutouts,” said HSU head coach Frank Cheek. “We hit the ball hard, ran the bases well, bunted well and made some nice catches. Now we need to get ready for the big tournament this week.”

Humboldt State plays a neutral-site non-conference twinbill against Chaminade Thursday in Turlock before taking part in the Tournament of Champions, hosted by Cal State Stanislaus, Friday through Sunday.
