TURLOCK — (March 30) No. 3 nationally ranked Humboldt State claimed 10-1, 3-0 and 8-0 wins over Chaminade University, Seattle University and Saint Martin's, respectively, in cross-pool play at the Tournament of Champions, Presented by Mizuno, in Turlock.

The Lumberjacks have now won 19 straight and improve to 33-3 on the season. The 8-0 six-inning win over Saint Martin's was also head coach Frank Cheek's 899th softball victory in his 19-year career.

The Lumberjacks' first game of the was their third match-up in two days against Chaminade. After struggling with the Silverswords' pitching on Thursday, HSU had no trouble Friday, pounding out 18 hits for 10 runs.

Chrissy Motzny was 4-for-4 with three RBI while Marissa Slattery and Carolyn Cameron had three hits apiece. Nancy Harbeson launched a three-run home run over the left field fence in the third inning.

Tracy Motzny pitched four innings to earn the win, giving up just one hit, a solo home run to Brandi Sasaki. Hannah Mullen-Jones threw three innings of relief, striking out five and recording her first save of the year.

Against Seattle, Humboldt used RBI singles by Natalie Galletly and Slattery to go up 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning. The Jacks added a third run in the bottom of the sixth when Harbeson crossed the plate on an error by the Redhawks' third baseman.

Lizzy Prescott (17-1) pitched the complete game for Humboldt, fanning 10 batters while giving up just two hits.

In the final game of the day, the Jacks exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 7-0 lead. Humboldt had six hits in the inning, including three doubles and two triples.

Cameron, Galletly, and Slattery led the way with two hits each while, defensively, Tracy Motzny (16-2) earned her second win of the day, striking out five and giving up just two hits.

Humboldt State faces Western Oregon and Hawaii Hilo Saturday to finish off cross pool play in the Tournament of Champions.
