ARCATA — (April 13) Fueled by a six-run second inning and a four-run fourth inning, Humboldt State blasted Cal State Bakersfield 10-0 in the opening game of Friday's California Collegiate Athletic Association softball doubleheader in Arcata. In the second game, Humboldt earned a second straight shutout over the Roadrunners, winning 2-0.

The Lumberjacks improve to 42-5 overall and 20-2 in the CCAA while the Roadrunners drop to 26-19-1 overall and 18-12 in league play.

Marissa Slattery led off the second inning of game one with a walk and Chrissy Motzny followed with a single to right. Francesca West then knocked a double down the left field line scoring Motzny and pinch runner Stefanie Singh. Carolyn Cameron had an RBI single for a third run and Natalie Galletly capped off the inning with a three-run home run over the center field fence.

In the bottom of the fourth, Nancy Harbeson sent a solo home run over the center field fence while Galletly, Chrissy Motzny and West all tallied RBI singles to account for the Jacks' four runs.

Humboldt had 14 total hits in the game, including three each by Galletly and Chrissy Motnzy.

Lumberjack pitcher Lizzy Prescott improved to 24-2 on the season, striking out four while giving up just three hits.

In the nightcap, Cameron scored on a suicide squeeze in the bottom of the first and later singled to center field to score West as the Jacks managed just a pair of runs in the win.

Cameron was 2-for-2 in the game while Galletly, Megan Sutherland, West and Harbeson each had a hit.

Tracy Motzny did not record a strikeout, but retired 20-of-25 batters to earn her 18th win of the season. She scattered four hits and gave up one walk in the game.   

The Lumberjacks and Roadrunners face off again Saturday at 1:30 p.m. on the HSU Softball Field.
