ARCATA — (April 28) Humboldt State's one-two pitching punch of Lizzy Prescott and Tracy Motzny shut down Cal State Stanislaus' normally powerful offense, each tossing one-hit shutouts as the Lumberjacks swept a pair of games from the West Region-leading Warriors Saturday in Arcata.

The Lumberjacks, the region's No. 2 ranked team, powered their way to an 8-0, five-inning win in the opener, then held on for a 1-0 final in the nightcap. Humboldt is now 49-6 overall and 27-3 in California Collegiate Athletic Association while Cal State Stanislaus has now lost four straight, falling to 43-13 overall and 23-11 in league play.

Chrissy Motzny and Carolyn Cameron starred for the Jacks in the opener, each tallied three hits and multiple RBI's. Both had RBI singles in the bottom of the second to give HSU an early 2-0 lead. Motzny then had a solo home run in the fourth and another RBI single in the fifth as the Jacks racked up eight runs on 12 hits on Cal State Stanislaus' starting pitcher Jessica Gaumnitz and reliever Nikki DeLeon.

Prescott improved to 28-3 on the season, striking out eight and allowing just one hit, a single by Jennifer Arnold in the second inning.

The Warriors' Omaira Estremera kept the Jacks in check in the nightcap, allowing just five hits one one run, but once again HSU's defense stepped up to preserve the 1-0 win.

Pitching a perfect game heading into the seventh inning, Humboldt State's Tracy Motzny finally gave up a hit to Cal State Stanislaus' Sarah Shamblin, but retired the final three batters on ground outs to earn her 21st win of the season.

Humboldt's lone run came in the bottom of the first when Cameron led off with a single up the middle, advanced to second on a passed ball, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and and scored on a single by Natalie Galletly.

he Lumberjacks and Warriors will meet in the regular-season's final twinbill Sunday at 11 a.m. on the HSU Softball Field. HSU seniors Carolyn Cameron, Nancy Harbeson, Tracy Motzny, Sabrina Schenck and Megan Sutherland will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
