LA JOLLA — (April 6) Returning to California Collegiate Athletic Association play after a week off, Humboldt State increased it's hold on first place, earning 1-0 and 7-5 wins over UC San Diego Friday in La Jolla.

The Lumberjacks improve to 39-4 overall and 17-1 in the CCAA while the Tritons fall to 23-21 overall and 14-10 in league play.

Humboldt's lone run came in the top of the second when designated hitter Ashley Oltjenbruns reached on a single up the middle, then scored on a triple to right field by Nancy Harbeson.

Carolyn Cameron recorded the Jacks only other hit in the game, but was later called out for leading off early.

Lizzy Prescott (22-1) effectively shut down the Triton's offense, fanning eight batters, scattering three hits and walking none.

In the nightcap, Humboldt scored a pair of runs in the top of the second on a single by Cameron and a error by UCSD's pitcher.

The Tritons would not go scoreless for a second straight game, however, tying the game at 2-2 on three hits.

Humboldt took a 6-2 lead in the top of the fifth, scoring four runs on a doubles by Megan Sutherland and Cameron and a 2RBI single by Natalie Galletly. The Jacks added a seventh run on a wild pitch in the top of the sixth.

UCSD rallied in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs on four hits and one Lumberjack error, would get no closer than the 7-5 final score.

Tracy Motzny pitched the first 2.1 innings before Prescott entered in relief earning her 23rd win of the season. Motzny would re-enter later in the game, closing out the final two innings.

The two pitchers combined for four strikeouts while giving up nine hits.
