ARCATA — (May 4) Tracy Motzny kept CSU Stanislaus limited, scattering four hits, striking out five and pitching a complete game to help Humboldt State defeat the Warriors, 5-2 in the winner's bracket game at the California Collegiate Athletic Association Softball Championships on Friday.

Scoring all of its runs in the first inning, Humboldt State earned a berth in Saturday's noon championship game. Cal State Stanislaus will play San Francisco State this afternoon, with the winner advancing for face the Lumberjacks again.

In the first inning Friday, the Jacks used four singles, three walks and a hit batsman to produce a 5-0 advantage. Nancy Harbeson, Marissa Slattery and Chrissy Motzny all picked up RBIs in the inning.

Cal State Stanislaus broke through for a run in the second on Casey Stephenson's home run. In the top of the sixth they struck for another, this one coming on a solo shot off the bat of Sarah Shamblin, but were unable to manage any more offense against Tracy Motzny, who improved to 23-2 on the season.

Humboldt State threatened in both the third and fifth innings, but first Estremera and then relief pitcher DeLeon worked out of both jams, stranding two HSU runners both times. Estremera suffered the loss, dropping to 13-9 on the season after giving up eight hits, four earned runs and striking out two.
