ROHNERT PARK — (Aug. 25) Humboldt State's volleyball team bounced back from an early morning loss to claim a triumphant 3-2 victory over Western Oregon in its final match at the Seawolf Spike Volleyball Tournament in Rohnert Park Saturday.

“It was nice to finish the tournament with a win, especially a hard-fought one,” said HSU interim head coach James Kealalio. “Overall (this weekend) was pretty good. I think we started to figure out who we are and what we can do.”

Led by Mallory Briney's career-high 17 kills, Humboldt State rebounded from a 30-25 loss in game-one to win game-two 30-16 and game-three 30-17. After faltering for a bit in a 30-25 loss in the fourth game, the Jacks knocked down nine kills on 18 attempts in the deciding game for a 15-11 final.

Also reaching double figures offensively were Megahn Berndt with 12 kills, Poerava Gantt with 11 and Olivia Solomon with 10.

Liz Shannon dished out 45 assists and Kelly Catherina had 24 digs while the Jacks' block returned to form led by Danielle Wells' five blocks.

The Lumberjacks hit the court again Monday night, hosting Simpson University in the East Gym at 6 p.m.
