SEATTLE, Wash. — (Aug. 27) Sarah Martinez tallied a hat trick and assisted a fourth goal, leading No. 12 nationally ranked Seattle Pacific to a 4-1 non-conference win over Humboldt State Monday in Seattle.

The young Lumberjack squad dropped to 0-2-1 on the season while the Falcons improved to 2-0-0.

A lethargic first-half performance put the Lumberjacks in an early hole as they gave up three goals in ten minute span.

“We had a miserable first half, but a much better second half,” said HSU head coach Andy Cumbo. “We were in their end and I would say we won the second period.”

Humboldt's first goal of the season came in the 79th minute of play when Meghan Connolly found the back of the net off of a corner kick.

Allison Lawrence began the play with a short ball from the corner to Erin Ashdown who drove the ball to the front of the net where Connolly headed it in for the score.

The Falcons had 17 shots in the game, 13 in the first half, while the Jacks had seven, five in the second half.

“Our level of intensity and competitiveness went up in the second half,” said Cumbo. “This was another good learning experience four our young team. We need to have intensity for a full 90 minutes.”

Humboldt's busy schedule continues this week when they host Saint Martin's and Notre Dame de Namur on Thursday through Monday in the Quiznos Soccer Classic. All games will be played on the HSU Soccer Field.
