ARCATA — (Sept. 15) Service errors and receive errors doomed Humboldt State's volleyball team in a 23-30, 30-20, 20-30, 27-30 California Collegiate Athletic Association loss to Cal Poly Pomona Saturday in Arcata.

The Lumberjacks fall to 5-7 overall and 1-3 in conference action while the Broncos improve to 10-1 overall and stay perfect in the CCAA at 3-0.

Humboldt accumulated 13 service errors and 12 receive errors throughout the four-game match, giving up a total 25 points in those two categories.

Despite those troubles, the Lumberjacks did come through with a big 10-point win in game-two behind five kills by Olivia Solomon and three each by Katie Norkunas and Liz Shannon.

Cal Poly Pomona regained the momentum in the third and fourth games, hitting .344 and .283, respectively, on their way to claiming victory.

Solomon led the Jacks, who hit .208 as a team, with 15 kills while Mallory Briney and Norkunas added 14 and 11 kills, respectively.

The Broncos, who average a CCAA-high 3.04 blocks per game, tallied just five blocks in the match, while HSU totaled six team blocks.

Humboldt looks to get back on track on the road next week, traveling to Sonoma State and CSU Monterey Bay for a pair of CCAA matches.
