Jacks suffer 2-0 loss to Cal State Stanislaus

ARCATA — (Sept. 16) In a fairly balanced match with few threatening attacks, Cal State Stanislaus made good on a pair of opportunities to earn a 2-0 win over Humboldt State in California Collegiate Athletic Association women's soccer action Sunday in Arcata.

The Lumberjacks fall to 3-4-2 overall and 1-2-0 in conference play while the Warriors improve to 4-4-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the CCAA.

Cal State Stanislaus put its first score on the board in the 31st minute of play on a goal by Cherie Early. Tiffany Moore passed a ball to Early who carried it up the left sideline, cut in and lofted a shot from the top corner of the box over the outstretched arms of HSU keeper Allyson Riggs.

The Warriors would strike again at the 63:35 mark of the game when Melissa Phillips used her head to drive a corner kick from Jenna Kasch into the net.

Humboldt had eight shots in the game, three on goal, while the Warriors tallied nine shots, six on goal.

Jessica Sitarz had three saves for CSUS while Riggs also recorded a trio of saves for the Jacks.

The Lumberjacks hit the road for the next two weeks, starting with a pair of CCAA matches at CSU Monterey Bay and San Francisco State next weekend.
