SAN FRANCISCO — (Sept. 23) San Francisco State tallied a pair of goals two minutes apart midway through the second half, giving the Gators a 3-2 win over Humboldt State in California Collegiate Athletic Association men's soccer action Sunday.
The Lumberjacks fell to 4-6 overall and 1-4 in the CCAA while the Gators improve to 6-4 overall and 3-3 in league play.
“Offensively we played a good game, but we're still not putting together a full 90-minute match,” said HSU head coach Andy Cumbo. “Two of San Francisco State's goal began with miscleared balls that we should have taken care of.”
Freshman midfielder Zephyr Valverde knocked in an unassisted goal at the 27:05 mark of the game to give Humboldt State an early 1-0 lead. The Jacks had a 7-4 shot advantage in the first half.
Araia Berhane tallied the equalizer for the Gators, scoring on a header off a cross by Casey Poston in the 53rd minute of play.
Humboldt rallied four minutes later when
Trel Mangarin netted his fourth goal of the season off of an assist by
Mark Nelson.
San Francisco State was not finished, however, as Benno Nagel and Dylan Glass found the back of the net at the 68:09 and 69:59 marks of the game, respectively.
Looking to break their current three-game losing streak, the Lumberjacks take a break from conference action on Tuesday when they host BYU-Hawaii at 4 p.m. on the HSU Soccer Field.
