ARCATA — Chico State broke away from Humboldt State with an explosive 15-0 run on the way to a 59-37 victory in California Collegiate Athletic Association women's basketball action Friday.

Chico State improved to 12-3 with the win, moving to 6-1 in league games. Humboldt State dropped to 7-7 overall and 3-4 in the CCAA heading into Saturday's game against CSU Stanislaus.

Jade Williams Smith dominated the floor, directing the Chico State offense and scoring on drives and pull-up jumpers. She finished the evening with a game-high 18 points, while teammate Audriana Spencer added 15 for the Wildcats.

Managing only a 30 percent shooting mark from the floor, the Lumberjacks were led by Katie Franci's 12 points and seven rebounds. No other Lumberjack made it to double-digits as the squad scored a season-low 37 points.

Neither team could find its range in the early minutes, with missed shots and turnovers more frequent than points. With the score only at 10-9 midway through the period, neither team appeared capable of breaking away.

The Wildcats forged ahead further when Jade Smith-Williams hit a jumper with 6:24 remaining in the half.  That shot started the big surge that extended to halftime, leaving the Lumberjacks trailing 25-9 at the break.
