Humboldt falls in tourney semifinals to Barry University

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Humboldt State's softball team finished it's weekend 3-1, falling only to Barry University of Florida, 2-1, Saturday in the semifinals of Schutt's Tournament.

Barry scored the first run on the board in the first with help from a Lumberjack error. Barry's Ashley Likens hit a home run to secure the game.

The Jacks scored their lone run in the third with two outs. Kirsten Nouzouvsky got on base with a single and was driven in by Caitlin Klug's double.

“We had a chance in the seventh,” Humboldt State head coach Frank Cheek said. “Galletly singled to left field, West got an infield hit, so we had a runner of first and second with no outs.”

Barry escaped the jam with a double play abd Lindsay Warren's fly out to left field.

Lizzy Prescott suffered the pitching loss, dropping her record to 10-2 record. Prescott gave up two runs, one earned, on five hits while recording six strikeouts and walking one.

“We played a good ball game against Barry,” said Humboldt State's head softball coach Frank Cheek. “We knocked out their star pitcher in the fourth. They are always ranked in the top 25.”

The Lumberjacks now hold a 10-3 overall record. They resume play at home next weekend, hosting the Best Western Humboldt Bay Inn Tournament.
