ARCATA — Rolling with the tide of the game, Humboldt State built a big lead, lost it, then built another on the way to a 83-68 win over San Francisco State in a California Collegiate Athletic Association men's basketball game Saturday.

After leading by as many as 17 points in the first half, the Jacks fell dormant as the Gators climbed back to within five points at halftime. The Lumberjacks pushed the advantage to 19 points in the second half, then kept a comfortable lead the rest of the way.

With the win, HSU , improved its overall record to 16-7 and moved to 11-5 in the CCAA. Its winning streak stopped at four straight, San Francisco State fell to 15-8 and 10-6 in league.

Devin Peal again led the Lumberjacks in scoring, contributing 18 points and also posting a team-high 10 rebounds. Grayson Moyer had 14 points, and Nick Green and Jameson Figgatt both had 10 for the Jacks. Will Sheufelt dished seven assists without committing a turnover.

Missing 6-9 center for the second straight game because of an injury, a bevy of bench players filled in and contributed valuable minutes. Along with Figgatt and Green, freshman David Jefferson contributed his best game to date, scoring seven points and grabbing three rebounds.

Helping San Francisco State make its first-half run was Alex Thomas, who finished with 15 points. Also in double digits were Martin Flores, with 15 points, and Derek Fletcher achieved team-highs of 16 points and eight rebounds.

Humboldt State goes on the road next week for the final time in the regular season, taking on Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus.
