Sports Auction to feature former Laker A.C. Green

Donor Form Ticket Application
ARCATA — Former NBA star A.C. Green, Jr., will be the special guest speaker at the Humboldt State Athletics Celebrity Dinner and Sports Auction, scheduled for Saturday, March 29 in the Kate Buchanan Room on HSU's campus.

HSU Athletics' most successful fundraising event, the auction is being held for the 23rd consecutive year. Last year's event netted more than $215,000 for student-athlete scholarships.

Throughout his basketball career, Green was known as solid rebounder and unselfish forward who also played in more consecutive games (1,192) than any other player in NBA and ABA history. Playing alongside Magic Johnson, James Worthy and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Green helped Los Angeles captured back-to-back titles in 1987 and 1988, his second and third years with the squad. In the two campaigns combined, he averaged 11.1 points and 8.2 rebounds while shooting better than .500 from the field.

Green also reached the NBA Finals with Los Angeles in 1989 and 1991. He was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 1988-89, was voted a starter on the 1990 Western Conference All-Star Team and finished fourth in the league in field goal percentage in 1992-93 at .537.

Prior to his NBA career, Green was a four-year star at Oregon State, where he finished second in school history in rebounding and fourth in scoring. He was an All-Pac-10 selection as a sophomore, and as a junior he ranked fourth in the nation in field goal percentage at .657. As a senior he averaged 19.1 points and 9.2 rebounds and was named to the All-America Third Team.

Green is the uncle of current Humboldt State player Nick Green, who transferred to HSU as a junior in the fall. A.C. Green has been a frequent attendee at Lumberjacks' games in Southern California this year.

This year's auction will also pay tribute to Scott Nelson, who was a student-athlete, football assistant coach and interim athletic director at Humboldt State. Nelson recently served on the hiring committee that played a critical role in bringing new head football coach Rob Smith to HSU.
