TURLOCK — Humboldt State recorded its fourth straight win, earning a 78-67 road victory over Cal State Stanislaus in a California Collegiate Athletic Association women's basketball game Friday.
Katie Franci's overall performance of 13 points, 14 rebounds and six assists helped the Jacks improve their record to 14-10 overall and 10-7 in league games. Cal State Stanislaus dropped to 6-17 and 4-13 in the CCAA.
Also scoring in double figures for the Jacks were
Jennifer Enos, with 13 points,
Kayla Henry, with 11, and
Brittney Taylor, with 10 coming off the bench. Freshman Christin Gowan paced the Warriors with 20 points, Shristy Kumar scored 15 and Katie Busi 10 points.
Humboldt State missed its first six shots from the field before Franci's three-pointer cut the Warriors' lead to 5-4 four minutes into the contest. Henry drained a turnaround jumper and
Paige Peterson added two 12-footers to put the Jacks ahead, 10-7.
Enos kept it going, hitting a wide-open three-pointer to provide the Jacks with a nine-point advantage, then a free throw by
Jessica Haayer made it 23-13 for the largest lead of the half.
Cal State Stanislaus trimmed the lead to six on Stamps' driving layin before the Jacks once again stretched the advantage to 10. They eventually entered the lockerroom at the break with a 36-27 lead.
Humboldt threatened to pull away early in the second half, expanding its lead to 12 points when Henry hit back-to-back short jumpers. Rebecca Arent's banker pulled the Warriors within five, but the Jacks'
Luiza Osborne hit a three from the corner and another from the top of the key to make it 53-42.
The lead ballooned to as many as 14 points, but the Warriors still wouldn't go away. After watching their lead dwindle to seven, the Lumberjacks finally iced the game at the free throw line in the final two minutes.
Humboldt State returns to the court Saturday evening, taking on Chico State in Chico.
