ARCATA – Humboldt State's softball team split double-header action with Western Oregon, Saturday.
 
In game one, the Lumberjacks defeated the Wolvers 2-0. In the bottom of the first, Nikki Ketteringham scored on Francesca West's single to tally the Jacks first run. HSU secured the win after Caitlyn Klug singled and drove in Ashley Oltjenbruns.
 
Lizzy Prescott improved her record 11-3 after pitching another complete game, with 10 strikeouts.
 
HSU fell 9-6 to Western Oregon in game two. The Wolves scored two in the first and four in the third before the Jacks registered a point. In the bottom of the fourth, West singled and then was driven in off of Lindsay Warren's home run.
 
In the fifth, Ketteringham and Natalie Galletly hit back-to-back home runs, while Ketteringham's drove in Klug, for a three-run inning.
 
Western Oregon answered back with its final three runs in the sixth to secure the second game.
 
“You can't give up nine runs and expect to win,” said Humboldt State's head softball coach Frank Cheek. “We did not have enough support for Lizzy (Prescott). I am happy all three pitchers got in the second game, but we need a better performance out of them. These are the kind of games we can learn from.”
 
The Jacks are now 11-4 overall and 4-0 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.
 
The Lumberjacks start their month long home absence with a road trip to Turlock, to take on the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors, Friday, Feb. 29, and Saturday, Mar. 1, to also resume CCAA competition. Before heading home, the Jacks make a stop in Belmont, for action against Notre Dame de Namur, Sunday, Mar. 2.
