SEASIDE — Ernie Spada led four players scoring in double figures to help Humboldt State ease past Cal State Monterey Bay, 84-66 in California Collegiate Athletic Association men's basketball action Saturday.

Spada drained 6-of-9 three-pointers, finishing with a season-high 24 points. Behind the junior guard's efforts, the Jacks improved to 7-3 overall and 4-1 in the CCAA.

Also in double figures for HSU were Kyle Baxter, with 12 points, and Kevin Atkins and Brian Morris with 10 each. Morris added six rebounds, while Zac Tiedeman and David Broome each dished four assists in another team-effort by the Lumberjacks.

Cal State Monterey Bay dropped to 3-6 overall and is now 1-3 in league games. Shaun Williams paced the Otters with 12 oints and Brandon Warded added nine.

Struggling from long range, the Lumberjacks managed to forge a lead by earning extra opportunities in the first half. Their full court press forced the Otters into 12 turnovers in the period, helping HSU to a 37-27 lead.

Spada, who had been struggling with his perimeter touch early this season, continued his assault from three-point range with back-to-back aerials. That stretched the Jacks' lead to 66-41 with 10 minutes, 37 seconds remaining.

Humboldt State returns to the court Sunday, taking on San Francisco State in another CCAA contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
