CHICO — Every player on the roster contributed as the Humboldt State men's basketball team tuned up for California Collegiate Athletic Association action with a dominating 110-55 win over Northwest Christian at the Mac Martin Invitational on Saturday.

Boxscore

The victory clinched at least a share of the tournament title for HSU, which has experienced consistent success at the event as a frequent participant in it's 51-year history. And after scrapping for a 83-61 win over Dominican University on Friday, the Jacks made the outcome look effortless against the Beacons, who challenged host Chico State before falling 85-72 the previous evening.

Shooting 60 percent from the field as a team helped six Lumberjacks score in double figures, including senior Brian Morris, who topped all players with 22 points. Junior guard Bo Henning added 16 points, including a 4-for-5 performance from three-point range.

Also hitting double digits were Kyle Baxter, with 14 points, Elliott Babcock-Krenk, with 12, Randy Hunter, with 11, and Brandon Sperling, with 10. Hunter, Morris , Sperling and Emmett Duvall all had six rebounds to help the Jacks gain a 39-24 edge on the boards.

While sharp shooting was the Jacks' forte from the start, aggressive defense also played a major role in the team's achievements. Hunter's steal was converted into a layup by Baxter, giving the Jacks a 13-0 lead with 15 minutes, 47 seconds remaining in the first half.

After NW Christian's Brody McGowan finally put points on his team's side of the scoreboard with a layup, the onslaught continued with a 21-4 run that gave the Jacks a 40-6 lead on Baxter's 3-pointer with 6:01 left until halftime. The Jacks held a 55-14 lead when the buzzer sounded.

The second half resembled the first, though with a bit less intensity. Every healthy HSU player saw double minutes in court time, including junior DJ Broome, who dished a game- and career-high seven assists without committing a turnover.

Leading scorers for the Beacons were Mitch Wilson, with 11 points, and Quentin Guidry, with 10. The Jacks' defense forced Northwest Christian into 28 turnovers, limiting the Beacons' shot opportunities.

Humboldt State returns to Chico on Friday for the CCAA opener against Chico State before traveling to Turlock to take on Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday. Both games tip off at 7:30 p.m.
