CHICO — Seniors Zac Tiedeman and Kevin Atkins came up with big plays down the stretch, helping Humboldt State claim a 60-53 win over Chico State and maintain a share of first place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Tiedeman's jumper with just under four minutes remaining gave HSU a six-point lead, and Atkins free throws in the final minute allowed the Jacks to claim their 11th straight win over rival Chico State. HSU imrpoved to 19-6 overall and 16-4 in the CCAA, while Chico State dropped to 14-11 and 10-10 in league.

Also coming up strong for the Jacks was junior post Brian Morris, whose putback gave the Jacks a seven-point lead with 43 seconds remaining. Morris finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds, also contributing three blocks for the second straight evening.

Atkins tied Morris for game-high honors with 16 points and Tiedeman had 13 points with seven rebounds and three assists. Mike Kehrig came off the bench to contribute six points and three assists.

Chico State senior Jon Baird scored 10 of his team's first 12 points to help the Wildcats claim an early seven-point lead. Baird finished with 22 points and Roderick Hawkins scored 10 points for the Wildcats.

HSU goes on the road again this week to finish up the CCAA regular season. The Jacks, who have already clinched a first-round home game in the league playoffs, will face Cal State East Bay on Wednesday and UC San Diego on Friday.
