ARCATA – The Humboldt State women's basketball team (14-6, 12-4 CCAA) will play their final regular season home games this week against two California Collegiate Athletic Association foes.
 
On Thursday, Feb. 11, the Jacks welcome the Broncos of Cal Poly Pomona in a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.  On Saturday, Feb. 13, the Jacks host the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes in a 5:30 p.m. tip-off. 

Saturday's game will be senior night.  Andrea Bobic, Luiza Osborne, Paige Peterson and Brittney Taylor will be honored prior to the game.  In addition to senior night, all the players and coaching staff will wear pink for breast cancer awareness in conjunction with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Pink Zone® initiative.

On-the-Air
Every Lumberjack basketball game is broadcast live over the local airways on KATA, 1340 AM, beginning with the pregame show 15 minutes prior to game time.  Bicoastal Media Sports Director J.B. Mathers describes the action from Lumberjack Arena and HSU Assistant Athletic Director Dan Pambianco goes on the road with the Jacks. … Audio is also streamed live over the Internet through the hsujacks.com web site. Head-To-Head
This will be the 10th time the Jacks and Cal Poly Pomona have met.  The Lumberjacks hold a 5-4 lead in the all-time series.  HSU lost the last matchup, on Jan. 9 in Pomona, 66-50.   It was the Jacks first conference loss of the season and knocked them out of first place in the CCAA standings.  HSU has taken five of seven games the teams have played as CCAA opponents. … The Lumberjacks lead the all-time series 5-3 versus Cal State San Bernardino.  HSU dropped the first three of four meeting between the programs, which first met in the 2006-07 season.  Including a regular season sweep last year, a win over the Coyotes in the 2009 CCAA Tournament and their win earlier this season 82-78, the Jacks have taken the last four meetings.

Lumberjack Notes
At 14-6 overall and 12-4 in conference action, HSU is in third place in the CCAA behind UC San Diego, who clinched a CCAA Tournament birth last week and Cal Poly Pomona.  Last week the Jacks were swept in a pair home games.  On Thursday, HSU fell to San Francisco State 63-61 after a furious comeback fell just short.  On Saturday, they lost to Cal State Monterey Bay 73-59. … The Jacks have the second-leading offense in the CCAA, averaging 69.6 points per game.  They are second in field goal percentage (.408) and lead in 3-point shooting at .347.  HSU is outscoring opponents by 7.6 points per game and outshooting them .408 to .367. ... Brittney Taylor has scored 1,079 points in her Lumberjack career and is just two points shy of tying Trina Dukes (1991-95) for fifth place on the schools all-time scoring list.   She is leading the Lumberjacks in scoring at 17.7 ppg (second in the CCAA), is shooting .511 from the field (second in the CCAA) and has grabbed 7.1 rebounds per outing.  Bree Halsey is the squad's top rebounder, fourth in the conference, at 9.2 rpg and is averaging 8.9 points per contest.  Andrea Bobic is at 12.7 points per game (eighth in the CCAA), Paige Peterson is averaging 9.8 points and 3.7 assists (second in the CCAA). ... The Jacks rank in the top-five of 13 statistical categories including No. 1 in assists (15.4 pg), 3-point field goal percentage (.347) and total 3-pointers made (134).

Cal Poly Pomona Notes
The Broncos (16-4, 13-3 CCAA) have supplanted the Jacks in second place in the CCAA.  Last week they swept a pair of home games.  On Friday they slipped past  Chico State 53-48.  Then on Saturday, they pounded Cal State Stanislaus 65-44. The CPP offense is led by the CCAA's third-leading scorer junior guard Reyana Colson (17.5 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 301 apg).  Senior guard Stephisha Walton (11.7 ppg, 9.6 rpg, 1.0 bpg), who is the third ranked rebounder in the conference, and sophomore center Megan Ford (10.5 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 1.7 apg) are also top contributors. In the meeting earlier this season Walton dominated the game with 18 points and 18 boards.  As a team Cal Poly Pomona has the best defense in the CCAA, holding opponents to 54.8 points per game while averaging 61.7 on offense. The Broncos rank in the top-5 of nine statistical categories and lead the conference in Rebounding Defense (34.0 rpg) and Rebound Margin (+6.0). … Scott Davis is in his third season as head coach at Cal Poly Pomona.   His overall record is 44-34.

Cal State San Bernardino Notes
The Coyotes (12-9, 8-8 CCAA) are currently in sixth place in the CCAA and would face HSU in the first round of the Tournament if it started today.  Last Friday they hosted Cal State Stanislaus and defeated the Warriors 76-70.  On Saturday they were fell to Chico State 61-51 in San Bernardino. CSUSB is led by the conference's fourth leading scorer, senior guard Krystal Urzua (16.1 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 2.0 spg) and junior forward Kymberly Ooten (12.3 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 1.2 spg).  Senior guard Ashley Ford is the Coyotes leader in assists with 61. CSUSB has scored an average of 61.3 points per game are shooting .371 from the field. They rank in the top-5 of five statistical categories, including leading the conference in assist to turnover ratio… Kevin Becker is in his 13th season as the head coach at Cal State San Bernardino.  His overall record is 196-153.

“Our ability to bounce back after last weekend is critical.  We have two really tough opponents in (Cal Poly) Pomona and (Cal State) San Bernardino coming in.” … “Pomona is a very good team and are in the hunt for a conference title and a trip to the regional. They really defend well.  They force you to run your stuff, make the right read and hit shots.  Down there we didn't hit the shots and turned the ball over too much.  They forced us out of what we wanted to do on offense.” … “San Bernardino has a prolific scorer in Urzua that you really have to focus on defensively.  You try to slow her down.  You can't really stop her.  They play a lot of people, so outside of Urzua they really don't have anyone who jumps out at you statistically, but they get production from a lot of people. Ooten, in the post, played very well against us last time. I expect a really good game.”
