ARCATA- The Humboldt State women's basketball team will pack their bags and head south this week to Los Angeles and Carson to battle two California Collegiate Athletic Association games. The Jacks will first play Cal State LA on Friday night and then Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday. Humboldt seems to find comfort on the road and is 3-2 while playing away from Lumberjack Arena. The Jacks, who defeated San Francisco State in overtime this past Saturday, will look to take their winning momentum on the road.
Head-to-Head
Humboldt leads the all-time series against Cal State LA (7-5) and is tied with Cal State Dominquez Hills (7-7). The Jacks won both series against the rival California Collegiate Athletic Association teams in the 2009-10 season.
Lumberjack Notes
Humboldt's four-game home stand came to an end with an overtime victory over San Francisco State on Saturday night. The Jacks dropped three straight outings at Lumberjack Arena before defeating the scrappy Gators in extra minutes. Now, Humboldt will look to take that winning energy on the road in this week's meetings against fierce CCAA competition. The Jacks will face both Cal State LA and Cal State Dominguez Hills for the first time this season. “They (CSULA) play everyone close,” said HSU head coach, Joddie Gleason. “They are up and down like us,” she added in regards to their record. Humboldt will be forced to play back-to-back games on this week's road trip. “(CSU) Dominguez Hills has a lot of new faces,” said Gleason. “It is always tough to play down there and we are expecting a good game…Van (Girard) is a good coach and his team always gets better and better throughout the year,” she added
Opponent's Notes
Cal State LA holds a 6-8 (3-7, CCAA) record entering Friday's game. The Golden Eagles have two players averaging in double-digits. Lacy Ramon is averaging 13.4 and Gretchen Tiernan with 11.9 points per game. San Francisco State holds a 2-12 (2-8, CCAA) before they face Sonoma State on Friday night and then host Humboldt for Saturday's game. The Toros are led by Ashley Hudson, averaging 9.4 points while also pulling down 5.3 rebounds per game
Coach Joddie Gleason
Joddie Gleason enters her seventh season at the helm of the Humboldt State's women's basketball program, after leading the 2009-10 squad to a 20-11 overall record and 14-8 mark in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Finishing in a tie for fourth place in the conference, the Jacks went on a three-game tear and won the CCAA Tournament and earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It was the team's third NCAA Division II West Regional birth in the last five years and just the fourth in school history. Under Gleason, the Lumberjacks have won more games in the past five years than in any other six-year period and her .660 winning percentage is by far the best in school history. In her six years at HSU, Gleason has amassed a 112-74 overall mark and is 78-51 in league contests (57-36 in the CCAA and 21-15 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference).

Gleason's Comments
“Our focus has been on rebounding…so our ability to out-rebound San Francisco State is very rare and it shows our collective effort.”…”We talk about our guards being more aggressive on the boards and they have been doing a nice job of stepping up.”…”Taylor (Kilgore) has been frustrated because she hasn't been hitting her shots…so it nice to see her keep shooting, find her rhythm, and have a good game.”
