Jacks ink win at home

ARCATA - For 40 minutes Humboldt State controlled the game and the victory was the largest scoring difference the Jacks have achieved all season.  Humboldt defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills at Lumberjacks Arena, 75-40.

“It was a collective effort,” said HSU head coach Joddie Gleason.  “ We executed defensively and secured the rebounds,” she added.

Humboldt not only led in scoring but also in both offensive (9) and defensive rebounds (30), assists (25) and kept the turnovers to 16, five less than their opponent.

The Jacks, who dominated from the time the ball was tipped, held a 37-18 lead at the half and never looked back.  Collectively, the team shot 48.3 percent from the field and 37.9 percent from beyond the arc.

The Jacks were led in scoring by Kelly Kime with 13 points.  Kime provided half of the points off of the Humboldt bench, 16 more than that of CSUDH.

“We focused on it,” said Kime in regards to the win.  “We made sure we had a good mindset and we will do the same for our game on Friday,” she added.

The Toros, who traveled only eight players, were led by Ashley Hudson with 10 points.

The Jacks will wrap-up the regular season play at Lumberjack Arena on Friday night against Cal State LA and pay tribute to the lone senior, Taylor Kilgore.

“Friday is a great opportunity for us to play for Taylor (Kilgore),” said Gleason.  “ She has provided leadership for the younger players on the team and she knows what it takes to win here.  She will be missed,” she concluded.

Humboldt has already clinched a berth to the California Collegiate Athletic Association tournament which will begin play on Tuesday.
