ARCATA — As expected, Humboldt State men's basketball is one of 64 teams nationwide selected to participate in the Division II postseason, announced Sunday by the NCAA.
The Lumberjacks, 26-3 overall and California Collegiate Athletic Association regular season champions, drew the No. 3 seed and will open the event at noon, Friday in Ellensburg, Wash. against No. 6 Alaska Anchorage. The Seawolves, out of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, finished second in their league standings with a 23-9 record.
No. 2 CSU Dominguez Hills, the team that defeated HSU in the CCAA tournament on a buzzer-beater Saturday, will face No. 7 BYU Hawaii in the second game at 2:30 p.m. Fourth seed Dixie State and No. 5 Chaminade, both of the Pacific West Conference, match up at 5:30 p.m., and the first round concludes with No. 1 seed and host Central Washington taking on No. 8 seed Seattle Pacific at 8 p.m.
The Lumberjacks, directed by first-year head coach
Steve Kinder, will make the program's 13th overall appearance in the NCAA postseason, and 10th in the last 11 years. Humboldt State's only West Region title came in 2003-04, sending them to an Elite 8 appearance where they fell one win short of the championship game.
All games will be broadcast live on KATA, 1340 AM, and also streamed via the
hsujacks.com web site.
