ARCATA, Calif. - Humboldt State men's basketball looks for its fourth consecutive win as it hosts non-conference opponent Fresno Pacific Monday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Lumberjacks are off to a hot start, their best since beginning the 2010-11 season with a 7-1 record. HSU reached the NCAA Division II West Region Tournament that season and compiled a 26-4 overall mark.

Fresno Pacific will provide tough opposition as the Green and Gold look to win their 19th consecutive home game dating back to last season. The Sunbirds are 5-2 overall and their only losses have come to a nationally-ranked Western Oregon squad and a talented Dominican team.

"Fresno Pacific is a team that has drastically improved in the last season," said Head Coach Steve Kinder. "We will have our hands full tonight. They have recruited well and have some good transfers."

The Sunbirds average 81.1 points per game and connect on 47 percent of their shots from the field. Four different scorers average 10 or more points for Fresno Pacific and senior guard Roger Paul leads the bunch. Paul is shooting 50.8 percent from the floor and is averaging 18.7 points per game. He has scored 20 or more points in three straight appearances.

"Paul can drive the basketball and gets to the free-throw line," said Kinder. "He is a playmaker and a capable scorer."

A key to the Sunbirds' success has been their ability to cause turnovers. Fresno Pacific averages 8.3 steals per game and scored 19 points off of turnovers in its Saturday win over Academy of Art.
