ARCATA, Calif. -
Humboldt State has just one opponent this week, and it is arguably one of the toughest in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The North Coast team visits Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday, Jan. 23. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The Lumberjacks rebounded from a Friday loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills and salvaged a road split with a Saturday win over Cal State Los Angeles. HSU is in the mix atop the conference standings with a 7-3 CCAA mark and, after the smoke settled on an upset-heavy weekend, are in a fourth-place tie with Cal Poly Pomona.

A weekend sweep of the Broncos seemed unlikely as they visited the Golden Eagles and Toros, but they stumbled in back-to-back games. Cal Poly Pomona shot a season-worst 28 percent from the field in Friday's 47-45 loss to LA. Dominguez Hills shot 57.5 percent against Cal Poly Pomona in Saturday's 76-73 loss; a season-high shooting percentage for a Broncos opponent.

HSU's leading scorer and rebounder, senior Rakim Brown was suspended indefinitely over the weekend and sat out Saturday's win. In the absence of one of the Jacks' top playmakers, sophomore Malik Morgan had one of his best collegiate performances versus the Golden Eagles. Morgan scored a season-high 22 points to go with eight rebounds and eight assists. His near triple-double featured 13 second-half points on 3-of-4 shooting, and he finished a perfect 9-for-9 at the free-throw line.

The Broncos lead the all-time series, and the Jacks have found little success in recent history. HSU split the regular-season series last year, before suffering elimination by Cal Poly Pomona in the second round of the CCAA Tournament. The Jacks have not won a road meeting with the Broncos since the 2010-11 campaign.
