ARCATA, Calif. – The Jacks are back on the North Coast following three separate January weekends in Southern California. Humboldt State women's basketball (8-10, 5-6) hosts two teams in the top-five of the conference in UC San Diego and Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. Both games will tip at 5:30 p.m. at Lumberjack Arena.
"It's not like we've been making quick little trips, we've been getting up and down the state," said Head Coach
Joddie Gleason. "It's great to be home. It feels like we haven't been here in a while and it will be great to be back playing in Lumberjack Arena."
The Green and Gold opened the 2016 calendar year playing at both UC San Diego and Cal State San Bernardino earlier this month. Both teams defeated the Jacks on their home floors.
UC San Diego (15-3, 10-2) has posted a nearly perfect January record. The Tritons have started the month 7-1, only losing to CCAA unbeaten Cal State Dominguez Hills. The conference's top scoring offense, putting in over 75 points per game, will be a tough assignment for HSU. At 17.3 points per game and 14.8 points per game respectively, Jamie Katuna and Farrah Shokoor have been the catalysts that spark the high-powered Triton attack.
Cal State San Bernardino (10-6, 7-5) was riding a four-game CCAA winning streak before earning splits in its last two weekend series. The conference's only team in the top four in both points for and points against, the Coyotes have proved that they can take care of business on both sides of the ball. San Bernardino has three players, Chelsea Barnes, Alexcia Mack, and Sophie Bhasin, averaging double-figure points this year.
"There is always urgency, we try to bring it every game," said Gleason. "Our conference is so tough. We have to come to play every night."
Both game will have live stats and streams available online at HSUJacks.com.
