Women’s Basketball Finishes Non-Conference Slate Against Wolves

ARCATA – Humboldt State women's basketball wraps up its non-conference schedule when it hosts Western Oregon Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.

The Lumberjacks (2-8, 1-3 CCAA) split a pair of California Collegiate Athletic Association games last weekend. HSU claimed its first conference win with a 44-42 victory against Chico State before dropping a hard-fought 54-45 decision to Stanislaus State.

"It was great for the girls to see success," said Head Coach Michelle Bento-Jackson. "Everything was against us and we pulled out a great win at Chico. We executed very well in that game."

Saturday's game will be Western Oregon's (4-4) second true road game of the season. Shelby Snook (17.6 points per game) and Jasmine Miller (10.7) lead a Wolves offense that averages 65.6 points per game. Miller leads the rebounding efforts for Western Oregon, averaging 6.6 per game.

Despite HSU winning the last three games, Western Oregon leads the all-time series 17-13. In the last meeting between the two squads, the Green and Gold claimed a 65-56 victory.

"This game is going to come down to half-court defensive principles," said Jackson. "A win against Western Oregon will definitely send us off on a positive note for the winter holiday, but our half-court defense will have to be on point."

After Saturday's game, HSU will have an extended break from action for the winter holiday. The Jacks return to conference play on Friday, Dec. 30, when they host Cal State East Bay before welcoming Cal State Monterey Bay to Lumberjack Arena Saturday, Dec. 31. Both games are scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
