Men’s Basketball Visits Nationally Ranked Gators

ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State men's basketball wraps up its longest road trip of the season when it tangles with San Francisco State Sunday. The Gators are ranked No. 21 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. in The Swamp.

The Lumberjacks (7-3, 2-2 CCAA) split last weekend's pair of California Collegiate Athletic Association road games. HSU dropped a 96-73 decision to regionally ranked Chico State, and the Green and Gold captured a 78-58 victory at Stanislaus State.

"We took care of business that second night," said Head Coach Steve Kinder. "I'm very proud of how bounced back against Stanislaus. It was a tough trip with a lot of travel."

Sunday's game will feature the CCAA's most prolific offenses. HSU leads the conference averaging 88.2 points per game, while SF State (10-0, 3-0 CCAA) scores 84.1 and ranks second. Warren Jackson is the Gators' top scorer, and he averages 16.6 points per game. The Gators also have a stout defense that leads the CCAA in blocks (4.6) and steals (11.3) per game.

SF State leads the all-time series 97-63.  In the last meeting between the two teams, the Gators claimed an 85-59 victory in San Francisco.

"San Francisco is awfully good," said Kinder. "They've won some great games on the road. They play well together, defend at a very high rate and are well coached. It will be a tough game in a tough environment."

After Sunday's game, HSU will break from action for the winter holiday. The Jacks continue conference play on Friday, Dec. 30, when they host Cal State East Bay before welcoming Cal State Monterey Bay to Lumberjack Arena Saturday, Dec. 31. Both games are scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
